ABOUT DEPARTMENT
Civil Engineering Department was established in the year 2007 with an intake of 60 in Bachelor of Technology. The intake was enhanced to 120 in 2009. The Civil Engineering Department has well qualified and experienced faculty in various specialized areas of Civil Engineering like Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Environmental Engineering etc. The department has fully established laboratories with latest equipment. The department has also taken up a step forward in the field of consultancy which is the greatest strength of the department and every faculty member is involved in it according to their field of interest. Consultancy Services are being offered both in design and testing of various Construction materials such as cubes, steel etc and on average earning revenue of Rs. 10 lakhs per annum. The department is always focused on to provide practical oriented teaching as a part of university curriculum which we make sure to expose students to various construction sites, like summer internship programs and field visits in association with government and private sectors. Civil Engineering department is looking forward to provide quality education to the students and make the better place for value based learning.
Associations
Association activities are held by department to bring up the best out of students and prepare them to communicate well and perform activities like cultural, technical paper presentations, current affairs, latest technologies etc. It involves interaction between juniors and seniors in a healthy environment.
Department Activities
Civil Engineering Department has been conducting different activities for faculty and students such as Faculty Development Programs, Workshops, Seminars, Guest Lectures and Training programs on new technologies for the benefit of Civil Engineering students. The Department also encourages the students to participate in different events such as paper presentations, poster presentations, model making, quizzes and cultural activities conducted by other colleges. Department of Civil Engineering also arranges Industrial Visits and local field trips. Department made arrangements to send the students for internship programs to acquire practical knowledge which is more useful for their carrier.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs):
1. Acquire the knowledge of mathematical, computational, and engineering fundamentals to succeed in a professional career and/or higher education.
2. Analyze real-world issues and create computing systems with technically, economically, and socially acceptable.
3. Able to demonstrate self-learning, ethical attitude, communication skills, and teamwork, as well as to adapt new trends in lifelong learning.
SURVEYING LAB
The Concepts in Surveying Laboratory were Established to allow the students to use State-of-the-art surveying and plotting equipments .This Equipment include total station instruments for obtaining angle and distance measurements , Theodolite ,Compass ,chain, plan table , a tripod mounted ,auto level and dumpy level for elevation measurements. In this laboratory the students do field work and participate actively in surveying and plotting with instruments and compile the required data in the field note book. These practices are helpful in enhancing practical knowledge of the students.
STRENGTH OF MATERIALS Lab
Material testing involves the measurement of the characteristics and their behavior under various conditions. The data thus obtained can be used in specifying the suitability of materials for various applications like building materials and construction. The laboratory offers consultancy services in carrying out various tests on building materials.
Hydraulic and Hydraulic Machinery Lab
The laboratory is equipped with a number of equipment and experimental setups to study the fundamental and applied aspects of hydraulics and hydraulic machines. The setups are used for calibration of flow measuring devices used in channels and pipes. Measurements of critical Performance parameters like efficiency, flow rate etc of various hydraulic machines such as turbines & pumps. The equipment are operated in a closed loop system which conserves water and averts the need for large quantities of water supply.
Concrete Technology Laboratory
Concrete Technology Laboratory provides facilities to conduct all quality control tests on cement, aggregates and concrete (Fresh and hardened). Students learn the standard procedure to test the quality of building materials in line with the corresponding IS codes. The lab has equipment for conducting non-destructive tests on concrete to verify quality in the post-construction phase. In addition to meeting the curriculum and consultancy requirements, the equipment in the laboratory are extensively utilized for projects by students of UG, PG and also by faculty for their research work.
Transportation Engineering Laboratory
The laboratory of Transportation Engineering in the civil department is well equipped with all the required instruments and equipment that are helpful in the overall understanding and practical knowledge of every student. The lab has equipment required to conduct all standardized tests to assess quality of highway materials, pavement evaluation and traffic engineering studies. Experiments are conducted in pre, during and post construction phases of highways. The Transportation Engineering lab does quality assurance and quality control tests for the Roads. Traffic engineering surveys are also conducted where in the students learn to perform spot speed studies, volume counts, and conflict studies for preparing road improvement plans to enhance road safety.
Engineering Geology Lab
The laboratory is equipped with field samples of rocks, minerals, Maps, Hardness testing kits and Teak wood models. All these have been displayed in showcases .The experiments conducted in this laboratory helps the students immensely in understanding the nature and behaviour of rocks underlying the crust and suitability of minerals and rocks in various manufacturing industries and in the field of construction like buildings, dams, bridges, roads, reservoirs etc.
GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING LAB
The Geotechnical engineering laboratory is a compulsory and basic undergraduate course, where introduction to Soil mechanics and Foundation Engineering will be provided. Sieve Analysis and Hydrometer, UCC, Direct shear, CBR, Permeability, Consolidation, Standard and modified compaction, Pcynometer, Sand replacement and core cutter are the equipment facilitated in the lab. The use of the laboratory allows the students to understand the complexity in the information associated with the laboratory experiments. Within the laboratory experiments, the students can explore the experimental procedures to identify the behaviour of soil for particular loading and able to understand results.
Environmental Engineering Lab
The Environmental Engineering laboratory in department of civil Engineering practically provides good insight into different experimental methods relevant to water and waste water Engineering. In this laboratory, various tests on drinking water and sewage samples are performed to check pH value, Electrical Conductivity, Turbidity, Hardness, Total Dissolved Solids, Total Suspended Particles, BOD and COD, etc. as per BIS standards. It helps to assess the water quality standard of the region, pollution load in sewage and working efficiency of sewage and other water treatment units.
CAD LAB
CAD Lab is equipped with AutoCAD, STAAD, RS & GIS , Building Estimation and REVIT softwares and is extensively used for design and drawing. The knowledge gained in the lab eventually equips the students to provide quality service once employed in the industry.
